Boss bossa session from British Big Band leader Vic Lewis with a cast of luminaries from both sides of the pond and featuring the tough "Last Minute Bossa Nova".
First time out in public blogland for this one.It was reissued as part of a "best of" blink and miss it cd in 1991 (cheers Bluebird!) but the vinyl (from which this is ripped) is rare as hen's teeth.

I adore records like this where players of real skill and facility bring what they do to a bossa date and let loose with real beauty without sacrificing meaning. "Plays Bossa At Home And Abroad" is just that stripe of rare beast.
Speaking of rare beasts, Bacoso, without laying down a suitcase full of scratch where else would one have access to such vinyl wonder?
A massive tip of the hat, ne, bow for sharing this unforgettable Vic Lewis with us all. No joke.
These tracks were re-issued on a 1991 EMI cd called 'Vic Lewis The Best Of The EMI Years' but not many people noticed it then or now.
There was no reference to the lp issue on the cd either and you would pass it by in the second hand racks unless you were familiar with the tune titles.
The cd should have had better publicity at the time because so many were chasing this rare lp for years (including me).
Pure class ...
Precious share & a joy to listen. Thanks
Phew! What a line up! MANY THANKS!
thanks Mr B !
Great post! Thanks!
Nice one Bacoso, thanks.
Superb recording - will enjoy this one over and over again. Many thanks. Is there any chance of more Vic Lewis?
Thanks mate. Another contribution to Shake Keane's discography. I used to drink scotch with him in St Vincent 30+ years ago.
Cheers
Thanks, Bacoso, this is a very nice record.
Pardon my ignorance, but can anyone tell me what Vic Lewis had to do with it?
I remember Lewis as having a big band. This is not a big band - it's quite a small group which includes some very well-known British and American jazz musicians - but Lewis's name is not on the list of participating personnel.
So what did he do - write the arrangements or did he act in a non-musician role as entrepeneur for just getting the musos together for some record dates?
Class - 'nuff said.
Magic memories, Thanks.
Many thanks for this little gem, most appreciated.
Just for the obsessives Shake plays trumpet and flugelhorn, and Tubby plays flute and tenor.
Sweet. Thanks for the share. Appreciated as always.
